Sandesh Sweet Recipe For The Diwali Festival

Sandesh Sweet

Diwali is a Hindu Festival which is called the ‘Festival of Lights’. On this auspicious day, we normally prepare lots of sweets and share them with neighbours, relatives and friends. After 6 pm, everyone starts lighting the diyas (small earthen decorated lamps)  followed by scented candles and decorative lights.

Today, I am going to share with you the recipe of a sweet called ‘Sandesh’. It is an Indian Sweet which I had eaten when I was in India. I found it so delicious and nutritious too that I had to ask for the recipe. When I came back home, I tried it and since then I do prepare it occasionally.

Sandesh Sweet Recipe

Ingredients
  • 500 g of Paneer
  • 1 tbs of Milk
  • 1/2 cup of Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp of Cardamom Powder
  • Grated Coconut
  • A pinch of Saffran
  • 1 tbs of dried Raisins or sliced Almonds

Instructions
  1. Crush the paneer well with your hands on a wooden board. It has to be very soft.
  2. Add the sugar and cardamom powder.
  3. Knead well.
  4. Cook the paneer on low heat for some minutes by stirring continuously so as to dry out the excess water.
  5. Switch off the heat.
  6. Let the paneer cool down.
  7. Knead again.
  8. Then, make 24 small balls.
  9. Put the grated coconut in a plate and roll on the small balls in them.
  10. In a small bowl, mix the saffran with milk.
  11. Decorate the top of each ball with the saffran and add one dried raisin or sliced almond on top of it.
  12. Finally put each of them into Cupcake Wrappers.
