I tasted 'Naan' for the first time in an Indian Restaurant in Mauritius. I prefer Naan with Butter and Cheese the most but you can try the other above mentioned too.
Today, I am going to share with you the easiest way of making Naan Bread. This is how I normally make at home.
Naan Recipe
- Serves: 7 persons
Ingredients
- 1 lb White Flour
- 2 teaspoons of Dried Yeast
- 1 teaspoon of Sugar
- 11/2 teaspoon of Soda Bicarbonate
- 1 tablespoon of Sesame Seeds
- 35 gms of melted Butter
- 60 gms of plain Yoghurt
Instructions
- Mix the yeast and sugar with 1 tablespoon of warm water.
- Leave it aside.
- Sift the dough, salt and soda bicarbonate together.
- Add butter, yoghurt and the yeast mixture.
- Knead well with enough water to form a smooth soft dough.
- Cover with a cloth and leave aside for 2 to 3 hours for the dough to rise.
- Knead again and make 10 to 15 balls.
- Roll out the balls into 6 to 7 elongated oval shaped Naans on a wooden board on which you will add a little flour so as the Naans do not stick on the board.
- Coat with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200* C for 5 to 6 minutes until light brown.
- Serve hot with curry, dholl or vegetables.
Note: You can also add other ingredients in this Naan Recipe such as grated cheese, onions, or any other vegetables of your choice.
