On Hindu Weddings, it is served as a dessert after dinner which consists of 7 curries along with Puri and Rice served on banana leaves. It is effective for digestion. It is a traditional Mauritian dessert. We know about sweet dessert, sour dessert, sweet and sour dessert but this takkar recipe that I am going to share with you today is sweet, sour and spicy. It is very tasty and I know you will love it too.


Takkar Recipe (Recette Compote Tamarin)

  • Serves: 6 persons
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

Instructions
  1. Make a paste with the tamarind and 1/2 cup of water and take out the seeds.
  2. Heat the ghee in a saucepan.
  3. Put the red dried chillies, big anise powder and cumin powder in the ghee.
  4. Let it fry for some seconds.
  5. Add the tamarind paste and sugar.
  6. Stir the paste till it is thick.
  7. Take out from heat and let it cool down.
  8. It can be preserved in fridge for a week.
