How To Increase The Concentration Level Of Your Children In Their Studies
If your children are having concentration problems and they are not able to concentrate well in their studies, then don't worry as the techniques that I am going to give you today will help them a lot. Ask them to practice this as often as they can.
- Reading: Tell them to read their favourite books by considering the step to step instructions here. While they are reading, they must focus totally on what they are reading. They must not be distracted with their own thoughts or in any other things. Ask them to bring determination in them so that whatever they are reading, they come to understand them as well.
- Understanding: They need to concentrate to the maximum while reading so that their understanding level can increase. It's not good to ask them to learn by heart rather tell them to understand what they are reading and this will help them automatically later.
- Listening: Listening is an art and in order that you can understand what you are listening, you must focus on your hearing system totally. So, tell your kids to bring total attention to what they are listening to. This way, they will be able to understand better and it will help in the increase in their concentration level too.
- Observation: Ask them to observe more and talk less. This way, they will be increasing their understanding level and also their concentration level.
- Motivation: Motivate them in studying the right way by helping them in different ways. You can ask them to study the same way they use to play games. Normally, when they play games they usually give total concentration to those games. They are very fond of these games and they can play for hours. So, explain to them that studying also must be the same. They must use the same concentration level to study too. As they get motivated to play games, they must be motivated to study too. This way, it will be easier for them.
- Determination: Know that without determination, your child won't be successful in his studies. So, it is very important for him to know where he is going. He must have a target for himself as far as his studies are concerned and make lots of efforts to reach that target. This way, he will be motivated and will also increase his concentration level.
The above mentioned techniques will also help your children in concentrating in class. They just have to listen totally to what their teachers are explaining and this way, they will come to understand better.
The Causes For Lack Of Concentration In Children
There are many children as such who are not able to concentrate well and there are multiple of reasons behind it.
- Parent's behaviours: One of the reasons why some children have this problem is because they are disturbed by situations at home. If ever the atmosphere at home is heavy and husband and wife quarrels often, then kids are not able to concentrate in their studies. They are disturbed both mentally and emotionally. This way, they also imitate their parents. They normally talk rudely to other people and also become violent too.
- Parent's not paying attention to their children: It happens so many times that parents don't listen to what their children want to tell them and this way too, they feel that their parents don't care for them. They feel neglected and create a lot of negative thoughts and negative emotions in them. They also become hyper and this is not good for them. Children need attention and if you don't take it into consideration, then they start treading on the wrong path. First, they will make friends with those who are already in negative activities. This is why parental guidance is very important. Don't put your responsibilities on other people. You are the one who must guide your children. So, it is very important for you to have maximum communication with them.
- Fear: Some children are not able to concentrate well in their studies just because of fear. They may have gone under different past experiences which were fearful for them. They may also have undergone to some past traumas that come back as obstacles when they study. They are not able to forget those experiences and they live with that fear. So, here this fear is often there along with them when they study also. This way, so many negative thoughts disturb them and they go on seeing the same past scenes again and again. The problem here is that they are not given the proper solution in order to come out from that fear and forget those past negative experiences.
Importance Of Parental Guidance
As I said earlier parental guidance is very important. So, it is a must for you to be with your children and make them feel that you are there to support them always not only materially but mainly being there personally for them. They can come and talk to you whenever they have a problem or on any other topic.
So, you have to make yourself available for them and consider them as your friends not kids. This way, they will open themselves easily to you.
Next thing is that you will have to make sure that you are making your children focus at the right place. See to it that they concentrate well on their studies and on other activities that they are allowed to.
How To Improve Attention And Concentration In Children
In order to improve attention and concentration in children, tell them to practice these effective techniques:
- Favourite Activities: Find out what your child love the most as far as activities are concerned. Their favourite activities will improve their attention and their concentration. As you know there are concentration games for kids which they can try. They can also be busy with construction toys. Ask them to build their favourite castle, vehicle, building or any other things that they love. They can also be busy with drawings and paintings or even outdoor activities such as swimming, football and so on. There are so many options for that.
- Movement of Physical Bodies: Ask them to pay attention how each part of their physical bodies functions. For example, ask them to focus on how their hands or feet are moving. They can also focus on each of their steps while walking. Another one is focusing when they are eating and drinking.
- Set up Goals: When you set up goals for them, they will be able to concentrate more in order to reach those goals. At first, make some of the goals easier for them. This means you will have to give them smaller goals which are easier for them to reach. Then, you go on increasing the tasks by making them a bit difficult and then more difficult as they go up to higher levels. So, each of these tasks has to have levels. Each of these levels has a certain intensity which they have to increase in their concentration level in order to go further.
- Reading: Give your child story books to read. At first, sit with him and make him understand where he is not able to understand. You must see to it that you are making your child understand as per his nature of understanding. Don't explain things that he can't understand well or he is unable to understand. This way, he will be confused. So, know how to explain things to him. Once he understands then it will be easier for him to read the books.
Concentration Technique For Children
As you can see above, these are some of the things that your children can be busy with. Now, let me give you a Concentration Technique which your children can practice.
- Sit comfortably and close the eyes.
- Clasp both hands together.
- Concentrate in the middle of both palms of the hands as long as they can.
- When finish, open the eyes slowly but stay seated for 10 minutes.
- Feel the palms with open eyes.
- Slowly separate the palms.
- Feel the separation and what is happening.
- Ask them to write in a journal what they have felt as experience.
Ask them to practice this Concentration Technique as often as they can. This will increase their concentration level and also their observation level. They will be more focused.
How To Improve Concentration Skills In Toddlers
Although toddlers are too small to make them improve their concentration skills, there are some activities that you can help them to be busy with. They are the ones who have just started walking on their own. It's a bit difficult to make them learn but still you can help them with some of the things that I am going to suggest here.
- Set up Goals: You can set up goals for him. As he has just started to walk, you can place his favourite toy at a certain distance and let him walk to it. Start with a short distance first, then continue to increase the distance. He has to stay focus here. He will aim his toy and will go for it. This way, his concentration will be on his toy only.
- Wooden Coloured Blocks: Wooden Coloured Blocks are best for them. They can choose their favourite colours and play with them. Here, they will mostly concentrate on the colour of these blocks and then they will make their choice.
So, as you can see, it is easy to increase the concentration level of your children. You only need to give the right guidance to them.
