Guilt Of Past Mistakes



Hello Ma,


I want to know how to deal with guilt of past mistakes. Sometimes, it happens that some past thoughts appear all of a sudden concerning some of my past mistakes and they go on torturing me. I feel like I am carrying a burden and feel guilty due to that. 

How do I unburden myself from the same?  Please help.

Know that mistakes happen due to unawareness mostly but sometimes people are aware that they are doing something wrongly, still they go on doing it. So, we can say that both by being aware and unaware, one can make mistakes. First, you have to know about the root of your mistakes because it is here only that you can solve this problem of yours.

So, whether those mistakes were with awareness or without, they have already happened. You cannot go in your past and correct them there. You are in the present now. The feeling of guilt happens when thoughts of those mistakes keep on coming in your mind, haunting you. Without these thoughts, you would never feel guilty. They are the roots of your problem now. Your thoughts are the roots.

Another thing you have to know is that guilt form part of emotions. So, know that if there is not even a single thought present, you would not have got that emotion. The problem here is that of connection of both thoughts and emotions. They are like two persons and a connection in between them is like a straight line. 

Once connected, one will find the good and bad of the other and vice versa. Slowly, this connection get stronger and what happens here is that both persons ego start confronting each other. The movie starts. So, many good and bad things can happen between them.

The same happens here with your mistakes. It is a connection that is causing this problem of yours. What you must do is just cut out this connection and live your life in the present. What has happened in the past, you cannot set them right. So, forget about these mistakes and see to it that in your present moments, you are not repeating the same mistakes again.

If you go on carrying the past along with you, you won't be able to live. Your present will be missing. Your presence too will be missing. What you can give to others in your present moment is lacking. You can do so many good things now, so why worry about what had happened in the past.

People blamed you, is blaming you and will continue on blaming you. This is what happens normally but you are not here to hear their blames. You are here to correct yourself. Don't pay attention to what others are saying about you. Pay attention in making yourself a better person. Forget everything and live your life.

All you have to do is give your totality in whatever you are doing. Take it as a technique and do it regularly. At first, you won't be able to give your totality but with regular practice it will happen. Here, the more you are lost in your activities, your thoughts will be lesser and sometimes there won't be any thought either. So, here it's impossible for you to get the same problem again.
